Props Comparison

In horror films such as 1408 they use props as simple as a key or just things to make a scene look realistic.
As you can see in this picture there is the simple use of the rope. By using the rope it means that the audience can create an image in their head of might have happened with the rope or what it is going to be used for later in the film.

Our props were very simple compared to other horror films but I think that ours made our film more realistic as we used bottles and glasses to make it seem like people had proper alcohol but they didn't. The bottles make it more believable.

Some more photos we may want to use

These are some more photos that we may want to use in our horror film. We are still undecided but we do have the option of using them.

We thought that these photos might add a bit of mystery to the surroundings of the film.

During the process of filming.....

It was very cold when we were filming but we still took photos to mark what we were doing along the way.

Lauren was our camera person and decided what camera shots we should do when.

Filming Day 2

We took 2 days to film and here are some more photos.

Me and Helen had to cover ourselves in BBQ sauce to make it look like dried blood and as if we had been running through the woods away from something for a while.

New Logo

As I was working with someone we agreed that we would use of their logos. We chose our 2 favourites and then decided between them. In the end we decided to choose the top logo. We chose this logo because it gives a sense of fear and the colours are very neutral which is quite unsettling.

Changed Storyboard

This is our changed storyboard. After we had drawn the first storyboard we decided that we wanted to change the second scene of our opening because the one we had originally planned wasn't thought out properly. I did a quick re-draft of the storyboard and wrote beside the shots that we changed. I didn't colour the storyboard in because I wanted to focus mainly on the things that would help my film become better.

Props that could be used

I have been thinking about some of the props that we could use for our horror film. I have come up with things like glasses, or simple things like scarfs, ketchup and bbq sauce.

The sauce's would be used as fake blood/dried blood to suggest that the girls have been running through the forests for a while and have been caught by branches in their panic. This would make the audience wonder what had happened beforehand.

The scarf would be used to cover the attackers face so people wouldn't know who they were and would create an air of mystery adding to the tension.

Costumes

We had to think about what costumes we should wear for our horror opening. In the end we decided to wear a light t-shirt, dark cardigan and light trousers. We wanted to wear the same thing because then people might find it easier to relate the 2 characters together and the lightness of the t-shirt and the lightness of the trousers would show the sauce and the mud much better than dark clothing.

Costume Comparisons

We had to think about what our characters would be wearing because we didnt want them to look to over the top, but we wanted them to look convincing.

We chose costumes similiar to Shaun of The Dead because they are just normal clothes covered in blood and that is exactly what we wanted. We liked the way that they weren't too over the top because we wanted our audience to fear for the characters like they were the characters themselves.

Wednesday, 15 December 2010

These photos were taken while we were filming the first bit of our horror film. We wanted to show what process we took while we were actually preparing to film.
This photo is of me and Helen. We took this photo just after we had tomato ketchup and bbq sauce thrown at us, mud smeared on our clothes, our makeup smudged and twigs and leaves put in our hair. We wanted to make it look as though we had been running through the woods away from something and we had run through brambles and branches which is why we used ketchup and bbq sauce to look like blood and dried blood.

This picture was taken when we were almost finished filming the first part of our horror opening. This was when i swapped characters and became the person we were running away from. It was a bit strange imagining running from myself. I had to drag Helen through thick mud which was very hard but I managed it in the end.

This is a close up of the picture at the start of the blog. It was to enable you to see the more of the detail of the top half (dried blood). I think it looks very convincing.

Story line Comparison

I am going to compare the storyline of the human centipede with our storyline. The human centipede is about a crazy doctor who kidnaps people to make one human centipede. The doctor kidnaps two german tourists and when they wake up they are in a make shift ward. The doctor explains that he is trying to be a world known doctor at seperating conjoined twins but really dreams of creating a creature that share the same digestive system. One of the victims becomes sick and is dying from blood poisoning. When two detectives visit the doctor decides that they will replace the sick victim however he fails to drug them. The doctor tries to escape but is killed in the chase as well as the policemen. Jenny and Lindsay hold hands at the end as Jenny dies from her blood poisoning.

Our storyline isn't as graphic as the human centipede as we wanted our film to available to wider audience. At the start of our film you see the two girls running into the forest away from something but you dont see what. As the girls seperate one runs into a dead end and realises that she is alone. The other girls keeps running, looking back as she goes. You hear the girl scream as the one that is stuck looks around helpless. The other girl is then being dragged along the floor and eventually out of sight where there is an ear splitting scream but you dont know what happens. It then goes back to 24 hours before that, where it starts to develop the storyline.

Character Comparison

< Demon

<Victim

When we were thinking of our characters we decided on two teenage girls because more people will be able to watch it as if we had characters like the ones above then we would have to limit our age group and we want a film that is open to most ages to watch.
Because we are doing a pyschological thriller it wouldn't be appropriate to use characters like this. Only gory and bloody horror's use these type of characters.

Original Storyboard

1 - Contrast of drak bodies running towards the sunlight.
2- Running across a bridge, Deep/Scared breathing
3 - Fork in the road, Split up in panic
4 - Realises she is alone, calls 'Helen' in panic, turning head in every direction, Tracking
5. Helen running by the river and not turning around when Emily calls her name, High angle
6 - Rotation around Emily, fearful, hears Helen scream
7 - Being dragged by a stranger along the mud, screaming, eventually get off screen and hear a loud scream
8 - Walking down the corridor talking, stops and stares like something is following
9 - Walk into classroom and meet Rowen, sit down and look away
10 - Close up of Helens face showing worry and fear

Some photos we may want to use in our Horror Opening

As we walked to the place where our filming is taking place, we decided to take some photos that we might want to use at the start or during our film. We thought that it might add to the realism and help set the scene a bit more.
This is the bridge in Pocket Park. In the dark this is quite creepy and we can also edit it to make it a bit scarier.

All of these photos can be made creepier and more effective with editing. We will probably have to edit them as it was quite light when we took them and we dont want them to be happy pictures.

There were some more pictures, unfortunately I was unable to load them. Hopefully these photos give you enough clues as to our location and what we want to achieve.

Logo Ideas

These are some ideas for logos for my production company. I have used the first letter of every persons name that is in my group to create my production companys name. I might decide to change my logo but these are just some ideas.

This is my first idea. I thought of using a Clapper Board as we are making part of a film so people would have an idea that we were making part of a film. I also think it looks quite professional and that is important because it will make people think that the film will be good and encourages people to watch it.

My second idea was to use an idea such as the one shown here. I thought of using an eye because our genre is supposed to be horror/thriller and i think using an eye that stands out against everything is very effective. When I first saw the eye it did make me feel slightly uncomfortable except the pretty flowers creeping up the side of the face, so what I decided to do was try to make it look as if a dark twitchy something was crawling up the face to the eye to maybe try and possess the person.

My final idea was to use fire. I think fire gives a sense of power and authority, like nothing can beat it and I want people to think of that when they look at the fire logo.

Comparisons

This is the house from When A Stranger Calls. Below is a house we might use in our horror opening. Like in When a Stranger Calls strange things will happen in the house and that is where things will stem from. You wont see it until later in the film(if at all). However our ideas might change but just in case...

Location Photos

These are our location photos :

This was our first location that we chose. We know that there is a small waterfall and so if we film there then it will add to the suspense and add to the synchronus sound.

After the bridge scene we want a creepy woodland bit to keep the creepy theme running.

This is also a bridge we may decide to use. It is good to have 2 different locations of the same sort of thing as it gives you choices and it enables you to change your mind just before you start filming or if there are problems you have a backup plan.

This is our second woodland scene. It is good to have 2 of the locations near each other because it will save time walking to each location.

After the creepy scenes we want to have a contrast to a happy and cheerful atmosphere and we had the idea of a group of friends having a get together.

We have a choice of houses, just to let people know that there will be a house used but we are unsure which house we are going to use yet.

Although we are having a contrast we want to give the audience some sort of idea of what went on before the start so there will be a bit of digression but not too much.

Some ideas for Characters in my Horror Opening

Characters

The sort of characters i came up with for my horror opening are Vampires, Girlfriend/Boyfriend, Clowns, Victim(s), Hero, Police, Murderer(s) and Friends. The ones that my group s more likely to use are Friends, Murderer and Victims.
I have put a picture of When A Stranger Calls onto my blog because the base of our Horror opening is a version of stalking and girls being the victims, like the girl who is babysitting so I thought it would be good to relate When A Stranger Calls to my horror opening.

Others I thought it would relate to are The Unborn, The Last Excorism and The Uninvited because they all give a \sense of being trapped and trying to get away but you cant which is what we are hoping to do with our opening.

Photos from different stages of filming

In this picture I am looking at a tree. We took this picture to show that we were trying to find a tree that was safe enough to climb up and film from above. We couldn't find a tree safe enough as it had been raining so the bark was slippery. In the end we found a tree stump that Lauren stood on to film the high angle shot.

In this photo Lauren had the good idea of taking a photo that showed Helen showing up on camera and in real life. You can tell the difference that the camera makes as it looks quite light on the screen but in real life it is quite dark.
This photo was to create a sense of fear. It was taken just before I started to drag Helen away to show realism and create emotion in Helen to make the scene feel more realistic.
